PRESENT PERFECT CON FOR E SINCE

Il present perfect definisce un periodo di tempo antecedente al presente in considerazione della sua durata, con for + un periodo di tempo, o in considerazione del punto di partenza, con since +  un momento preciso. FOR e SINCE possono essere usati anche con il past perfect. SINCE può essere usato esclusivamente con i tempi perfect (present perfect e past perfect) mentre FOR può essere usato anche con il simple past.

FOR E SINCE

Come usare for e since per parlare di tempo - significato e differenza tra for e since in inglese. Since e from - since è ing form - since then - ever since.

for + periodo di tempo

Il periodo è una durata di tempo, può essere alcuni secondi oppure ore, settimane, anni, mesi, etc.

for si può usare con tutti i tempi verbali.

Since + preciso momento nel tempo

Un momento esatto nel tempo può essere un istante preciso, ma anche un ora, un giorno o un anno.
Since si può usare solo nei tempi perfetti.
Significa da un punto esatto nel tempo fino ad ora, up to now.
Esempi:
I can resist under water only for 20 seconds    = Posso resistere sott'acqua solo per 20 secondi.
I have lived in Bologna since 2008   = Vivo a Bologna dal 2008 (fino ad ora,up to now)

FOR può quindi essere usato per misurare la durata, quanto è durato qualcosa:
I have known Giorgio for 5 years   =    Conosco Giorgio da 5 anni.

Since ci dà il punto iniziale dell'azione, evento o stato, e si riferisce a quando le cose sono iniziate:
I have known Betty since 2000.      =  Conosco Betty dal 2000. 

Differenza fondamentale tra for e since

-          since si usa con i tempi perfetti

-          for si può usare con tutti i tempi verbali. 

She have lived here for five years     Vivo qui da 5 anni    ( 5 years = durata/lunghezza di tempo)

They have lived here since 1995   ( 1995 è il punto iniziale).  Essi vivono qui dal 1995.

I run for one our every day.   Tutti i giorni corro per un'ora.

I lived in Sardinia for 20 years     Ho vissuto in Sardegna per 20 anni

FOR + PERIODO DI TEMPO

for six years, for a week, for a month, for hours, for two hours
I have worked here for five years.

SINCE + MOMENTO PRECISO

since this morning, since last week, since yesterday
since I was a child, since Wednesday, since 2 o'clock
I have worked here since 1990.

PRESENT PERFECT CON "FOR"

She has lived here for twenty years.
We have taught at this school for a long time.
Alice has been married forthree months.
They have been at the hotel for a week.

PRESENT PERFECT CON "SINCE"

She has lived here since 1980.
We have taught at this school since 1965.
Alice has been married since March 2nd.
They have been at the hotel since last Tuesday.

Quando usiamo il Present Perfect per parlare di azioni che sono iniziate nel passato e continuano nel momento presente usiamo spesso espressioni che indicano un periodo temporale.

a few days
(un po’ di giorni)
half an hour
(mezz’ora)
two years
(2 anni)

Quando queste espressioni indicano il tempo nel quale è iniziata l’azione si usa “since”.

Quando queste espressioni indicano la durata si usa “for”.
