Il processo a Socrate

 "Οὐκοῦν, εἰπεῖν τὸν Σωκράτην, θαυμαστὸν καὶ τοῦτό σοι δοκεῖ εἶναι, τὸ ἐν μὲν ταῖς ἄλλαις πράξεσι μὴ μόνον ἰσομοιρίας τυγχάνειν τοὺς κρατίστους, ἀλλὰ καὶ προτετιμῆσθαι, ἐμὲ δέ, ⟨ὅτι⟩ περὶ τοῦ μεγίστου ἀγαθοῦ ἀνθρώποις περὶ παιδείας, βέλτιστος εἶναι ὑπό τινων προκρίνομαι, τούτου ἕνεκα θανάτου ὑπὸ σοῦ διώκεσθαι;"

Traduzione in italiano 

«Ebbene», replicò Socrate, «non vi sembra incredibile che, mentre in altri campi coloro che eccellono non solo ricevono un trattamento equo, ma addirittura un onore speciale, io, poiché alcuni mi giudicano eccellente in quella che è la più grande benedizione dell'uomo – l'istruzione – per questo motivo venga perseguitato da voi con l'accusa di morte?»

English Translation

 "Well, then," Socrates rejoined, "does it not seem amazing to you that while in other pursuits those who excel do not merely receive equal treatment but are even given special honor, yet I, because I am judged by some to excel in that which is man's greatest blessing—education—am on this account prosecuted by you on a capital charge?"
